- Contract worth KRW 840 billion signed with Vietnam’s state-owned enterprise PVN
- Follows on the heels of the O Mon IV contract won last year and expected to be first deployment of Doosan’s steam turbine in Vietnam

Doosan Enerbility is on a winning streak in the Vietnamese market for combined cycle gas turbine power plants.

Doosan Enerbility announced on October 1st that it had signed a contract with Vietnam’s state-owned enterprise Petrovietnam (PVN) for construction of the O Mon III Combined Cycle Gas Turbine(CCGT) Power Plant. The contract is valued to be KRW 840 billion.

For this project, Doosan will be forming a consortium with PTSC, a local Vietnamese company specializing in energy services (a PVN subsidiary), and will be taking on the overall engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) work. Doosan will also be supplying the steam turbine, a key component of the power plant. This will be the first deployment of Doosan Enerbility’s steam turbine at a combined cycle power plant in Vietnam.

The O Mon III power plant will be built at the same power generation complex as that of the O Mon IV power plant which was won by Doosan last year, placing it at a location approximately 180km to the southwest of Ho Chi Minh City. The power plant will be designed to have a total capacity of 1,155MW and is slated to be built by 2030. Once constructed, the power plant is expected to contribute to stabilizing the electricity supply in Southern Vietnam.

“Having secured the O Mon III project following on the heels of the O Mon IV project which we won last year, we have once again demonstrated our competitiveness in the Vietnamese market for combined cycle gas turbine power plants,” said Seongyeol Lee, Doosan Enerbility’s Senior Vice President of EPC Sales & Marketing. “As the client PVN has plans to build more combined cycle gas turbine power plants at the O Mon Power Generation Complex in Southern Vietnam and in North Central Vietnam, we plan to successfully execute the O Mon III and IV projects to actively expand our reach in the Vietnamese power market.”

As of this year, Doosan Enerbility has won a total of five projects to date, including this project, which amounts to a total value of approximately KRW 3.87 trillion worth of projects for combined cycle gas turbine power plants in both the domestic and global markets. This past June, the contracts for the Jafurah Cogeneration Power Plant Phase 2 (approx. KRW 840 billion) project in Saudi Arabia and the Duqm CCGT Power Plant (approx. KRW 530 billion) in Oman were secured, followed by the Misfah CCGT Power Plant (approx. KRW 980 billion) in Oman which was won this past August, and the Hadong Combined Cycle Power Plant project (approx. KRW 670 billion) that was won last month.
